“Eat Something Green”
I’m sure everyone is searching for a simple way to ease into the dietary challenges that Lent provides each year. All those fish sandwiches are filling commercial airwaves again, just like they always do at this time of year. In case you didn’t know, it is traditional for Christians to practice fasting on Fridays during the Lenten Season, the six weeks of preparation for Easter. Meat (beef, pork, poultry) is typically avoided on Fridays. Since this author is a home-grown carnivore, I need to ease into this challenge.
In celebration of Lent, today’s challenge is to eat something green. Yes, gummy bears and Skittles qualify, but that’s stretching it a little. The goal is to eat something a little more healthy, such as lettuce on your BLT, pickles on your Quarter Pounder, or broccoli on top of your cheese.
Lent is a season of preparation, but the overall goal is to grow closer to God by doing/not doing something for God. Reading the Bible and praying are easy things to complete. Withholding sweets or other unhealthy habits are good ways to make sacrifices. Either way, when we complete a task for God, it helps us to understand God a little more. Don’t think it’ll work? Try it today and see for yourself!
Eat something green (preferably healthy) for God today!
Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.” (Genesis 1:29, NASB).
