“Pray for a Soft Heart”

What is a “Soft Heart”? Simply put, it’s a heart that is willing to receive.

However, for our hearts to be willing to receive, other parts of our being must be involved in the process. A soft heart also includes ears that are willing to hear. If we are reluctant to allow something new and important to be communicated to us, then we can’t have a soft heart. A soft heart commands that we value everything that we hear, whether it is from the voice of another person, words from inspirational music, the whisper of the wind, or the voice of God, Himself.

A soft heart also includes eyes that are open to perceiving something different. It’s truly amazing that our eyes can be so accustomed to seeing only certain things. Whether it’s the underwear in the middle of the floor or the ugliness of a situation, our visual perception is important in the receiving process of a soft heart. We must be ready to witness something different, positive, and healthy. None of us needs a lesson about the stuff we see on the TV, computer, or smartphone, so we’ll avoid that soap box.

An open mind will also be necessary to soften our hearts. God is always doing some amazing things, but unless our minds are open to what is possible, we may never grow beyond the things we think are impossible.

It’s true that anything is possible with God and I’d like to witness it! A softened heart, created by our open ears, eyes, and mind, will go a long way for us to experience God’s amazing work in our lives and the lives of those around us.

Pray for a soft heart today!

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stony heart from your body and replace it with a living one.” (Ezekiel 26:26, CEB)
