“Eat Something Green”

It’s the Ides of March, just a little over two weeks away from the conclusion of the Lenten Challenges and we need a break. Fridays are usually difficult but not today. Today’s Lenten Challenge is to Eat Something Green.

Maybe this is dumb. However, since our last four Fridays have included dietary restrictions such as no meat, no caffeine, no sweeteners, and water only, I think a break is absolutely deserved. Granted, this Challenge does not mean that we can eat a green Gummy Bear, green M&M, or drink green beer and accomplish it. Instead, green consumption must be something healthy, such as a fruit, vegetable, or protein.

Today’s Lenten Challenge arrives on the weekend that includes St. Patrick’s Day, so it’s expected that green will be the preferred color for most folks. But the Challenge itself is added because it’s important that we actively pursue healthy diets. The removal of unhealthy, junk and fast foods is great. Fasting is wonderful. However, it’s just as important to consume healthy foods and beverages. We can’t simply exchange alcohol for Coca-Cola and expect to solve all of our health concerns. We also need to begin filling our bodies with stuff that helps our internal engines run effectively and efficiently, without polluting the rest of our body.

So, without further ado, let’s get after it today by finding something green and healthy to eat or drink. Don’t feel like we have to limit it to just one thing. Chase the salad with some green beans. It’ll do the body good.

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.” (1 Corinthians 6:12, ESV)
