“Hurry Up and Slow Down!”
It’s another Happy Monday in the Holiday Season. The first full week of Christmas preparation blew by with the speed and haste of a superhero, including the first Holiday Monday. (Why don’t Mondays in August move this quickly?) I guess the old phrase, “Time flies when we’re having fun,” might actually be correct. Granted, Daylight Savings may have something to do with it, but an hour here or there isn’t going to matter that much. We need more time.
Since we’ve made this journey a few times before, we understand what lies ahead. Because of that, we ought to be a little more adept at slowing things down. However, just like nearly every Holiday Season before, we tend to join the race when everyone around us begins to run. It’s quite comical if we think about it. Most of us really dislike the “busy” feel of the season, and yet, each year, we electively jump in as if we were standing on the side of a swimming pool in August.
This year, consider scheduling some peace and quiet every day. Regardless of what we may choose to do in the quiet time, we can be intentional about slowing things down enough to give ourselves a moment to take a deep breath. We don’t need a physician to tell us that we need to chill out for a few minutes each day. We already have enough experience with Christmas to know that we need to slow down.
19 more shopping days before Christmas! Hurry up and slow down!
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” (Psalm 46:10, NLT).
