Senior Pastor - Rev. Brock Patterson

Longboat Island Chapel Senior Pastor (Pastor Brock)

Pastor Brock finds his greatest joy in seeing others discover God’s unconditional love for them! A passionate teacher, Brock brings fresh meaning and timeless truth to those familiar with the church while communicating with relevance to those who are brand new. He enjoys caring for people outside of the church walls, whether they’ve quit attending church, have never attended church, or don’t “fit the mold” in other church environments.

Brock’s ministry at The Chapel began in November 2020, bringing his background in church planting and growth to Longboat Key. Under Brock’s leadership, The Chapel has begun many new programs, ministries, and educational opportunities, including Christmas in the Garden, Advent and Lent Challenges, extensive Bible studies (including Zoom and YouTube), facility renovation and restoration, and enhanced audio and video streaming of all services and events. Embracing The Chapel’s “Gather and Give” ministries, Brock has deepened our partnerships, especially with area schools, nonprofits, local government agencies, and community outreach organizations.

Brock served for many years as an executive in Corporate Finance and is a recognized leader in church planting. His ecumenical journey is a natural fit for The Chapel and Longboat Key – raised in the Baptist Faith, attending Little Rock Catholic High School and Baylor University. Rev. Brock has ministry experiences in the United Methodist Church, the Cumberland Presbyterian tradition, Southern Baptist and non-denominational churches.

Brock enjoys serving with our town events and working with our city leaders to ensure emergency readiness. Brock is proud to serve as Chaplain for Longboat Key Fire Rescue, and he regularly leads prayer for local government agencies, social groups, and large gatherings. Brock also enjoys working with the Longboat Key and St. Armand’s Ministerium (interfaith). An avid fisher and lifelong outdoorsman, he actively supports conservation in Manatee and Sarasota Counties (CCA) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Born and raised in Arkansas, Brock is a proud father of two, grandfather of two, and loving sibling of four. Though still an Arkansas Razorback fan, Pastor Brock is delighted to make his home on Longboat Key.

Dr. Jay Barbosa

Dr. Jay Barbosa

Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care

Dr. Jay Barbosa brings various backgrounds and experiences with him to the Longboat Island Chapel.  He began his adult life by joining the United States Marine Corps Infantry at the age of 17.  He soon became part of the elite Reconnaissance Units which took him on numerous deployments to combat zones, as well as additional humanitarian missions.

Following his time in the military, he then earned his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University and his Master of Arts in Teaching at Chapman University.  The next 20 years were spent in education, with 15 of them in Special Education.  His previous exposure to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder proved to be invaluable in his interactions with children with emotional disabilities.

When Jay received God’s call to work in Chaplaincy, he returned to school to earn his doctorate through a globally recognized program at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary Center for Advanced Studies.  Utilizing his many talents, Dr. Jay then found his passion for ministering to military veterans, children with special needs, and hospice patients.  While serving as a hospice chaplain, Dr. Jay also served as a contract pastor for the Lutheran Church in Colorado, helping to care for the needs of the local church.

In his free time, Chaplain Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and family, coaching lacrosse, watching his daughter play lacrosse for the University of Tampa, fishing and hunting.  He looks forward to returning to his passion for free diving, sea fishing, and all things related to the water!

The Longboat Island Chapel is thrilled to welcome Dr. Jay to the Chapel family!
